Get Involved

Virginia Cooperative Extension relies on volunteers to accomplish its mission. We believe that active citizen involvement in our programs makes a difference in our success. The work of volunteers at the local level helps us leverage our paid faculty and staff resources into a much greater impact for the people of Virginia.

There are many ways you can get involved with us. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact us and we will be happy to discuss available opportunities.

4-H Youth Development
Do you have a passion or a hobby? Do you enjoy working with kids? Does it make you smile to see someone learn? If you answer yes to any of these questions, you have what it takes to be a 4-H volunteer.

“It takes a village to raise a child.”  And 4-H is part of that village.  In addition to a wide variety of educational opportunities offered through a number of different venues, 4-H offers opportunities for healthy adult-to-child interactions...the kinds of interactions that help children grow to become good citizens; good adults. Come help expand the programs of 4-H in Mathews County.

You don’t need to have experience.  You don’t need to make a long-term commitment.  You don’t need to devote a large amount of time.  Training and support will be provided through the Extension Office.  Call the Mathews Extension Office to discuss your ideas and to learn more 804-725-7196.

Mathews Extension Leadership Council
If you would like to have a hand in guiding the programs offered in any of the areas of Virginia Cooperative Extension for Mathews County, consider volunteering to serve on the Extension Leadership Council.  This group is instrumental in assessing the needs of the county and in providing direction for the programs that are offered.  If you have an interest or know of a group that would benefit from education that Cooperative Extension can provide, your help and assistance will be welcomed.  The Extension Leadership Council holds regular quarterly meetings.
